Welcome to The Getherin'

The Getherin’ is TD1 Radio’s high-energy celebration of Scotland, Ireland and beyond — where folk roots meet modern anthems and every track tells a story. From the legends of the glens to today’s trailblazers, this is the sound of tradition reimagined. If it stirs the heart, lifts the spirit, or makes you want to book a ticket north — you’ll hear it here.

From the hush of a Highland glen to the roar of a festival crowd, The Getherin’ brings the music of our nations to life. This is where fiddles soar, accordions drive the rhythm, and songs of love, land and legacy echo across the airwaves. Whether it’s a timeless anthem from Runrig, the soaring harmonies of Capercaillie, or the modern Celtic energy of Skerryvore, every show is a gathering of sound, story and spirit.

This isn’t just a playlist - it’s a ceilidh for the soul.

The Getherin' is presented by Karin Ingram on the mic, with Mike Kneeshaw on the keyboard keeping the show running smoothly online.

History of the Getherin'

The parent group for Radio Borders decided to broadcast mainly from Glasgow and Edinburgh and so local weekend “specialist programmes” such as The Getherin’ were axed with only a few days’ notice at the end of April 2011.  However, David Henderson of TD1 Radio came to the rescue and the show moved seamlessly to TD1 on Sunday 1 May 2011, taking many of its listeners with it.  Runrig’s “Maymorning” was the first song played.

As Karin often says, she only pushes the buttons – the stars of the show will always be the wonderful, talented musicians who share their music with us.

In addition to our musicians, Karin would also like to thank previous Sponsors, Scocha and RA Oliver Motor Mechanics, current Patron Gus Oliver, and all listeners and presenters who have helped with fundraising for TD1 Radio.

The tech team, led first by David Henderson and then by Jim Keddie, are the safety net for the presenters and are hugely important to the smooth running of the station.

David “Celty” Shaw and Mike Kneeshaw have both acted as “right hand men”, helping with every aspect of the show and, without them, who knows if we would have been on air for more than twenty-two years?

Expect music from across the musical spectrum - traditional ballads, contemporary folk-rock, Gaelic gems, Americana crossovers and festival floor-fillers. From the quiet and reflective to the rousing and roof-raising, the journey is always rich, always heartfelt, and always proudly rooted in community.
