Where Great Music Refuses to Behave

Some radio shows follow playlists. Strange Brew follows instinct.

For more than fifteen years, Steve Clarke has been wandering through the known universe of popular music — and occasionally beyond it — gathering songs that refuse to sit neatly in categories. On TD1 Radio 106.5FM, genres dissolve, decades collide and musical boundaries politely step aside.

There may be a rich seam of singer-songwriter brilliance running through the show — Scottish, English, British, American, Canadian — but that’s only the starting point. One week might drift through Gaelic or Scots ballads, the next might lean into Irish storytelling, Norwegian atmospherics, French chanson, Spanish warmth or pure, unfiltered blues. Sometimes we wander gently into traditional folk. Sometimes we plunge headfirst into rock — with a vengeance.

A nostalgic nod to the 1960s can sit comfortably beside freshly released 2026 discoveries. There are no rigid rules. No algorithm. Just curiosity, conviction and a love of good music.

A friend once described the programme as:

“A weekly wander round the dusty shelves, alcoves, nooks and crannies of the Old Curiosity Shop of Tunes.”

That feels about right ~ Strange Brew began with a determination to explore the musical universe without fences — and it still does. If it surprises you, moves you, or makes you lean in closer… it belongs in the Brew.

Steve Clarke presents his weekly 'Strange Brew'

The Philosophy of the Brew

Strange Brew began with a simple determination: to wander freely around the musical universe. No algorithm. No formula. Just curiosity and conviction.

It remains proudly independent in spirit — driven by a love of good songs, good writing and good musicianship.

If it surprises you, moves you, or makes you lean in closer… it belongs in the Brew.

Hi Steve. First time I've listened to your show and I'm really enjoying it.

I have an album coming out on 10 April under the band name Kinnaber Junction and the album is called Up the Junction (the songs roughly follow the plot of Squeeze's Up the junction).
I'd love to share the tracks with you along with a bit more about myself and the album.
I've been sharing a Dropbox link to either wav or MP3 tracks if this suitable all I would need is an email address. If you would prefer to receive in a different way please just let me know.

Look forward to hearing from you.
